Thejakartatimes – The DPP KNPI urges the Indonesian government to take a firm stand against the policies of the United States government that officially recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. The policy not only violates UN Security Council Resolutions but also triggers tensions, and threatens the future of peace in Gaza and the Middle East. Furthermore, President Trump has given the order to move the US consulate from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
In Resolution 478 made by the UN Security Council and supported by the US government it was expressly stated that; “Israel is prohibited from making laws that alter the status of Jerusalem. The status change is considered a violation of international law. All the countries that make diplomatic representation in Jerusalem are required to close it .
Reflecting on the resolution, America can no longer be judged neutral and has a real side to Israel. Given, the Indonesia-Palestine relation has a long historical history and considers the future of Israeli-Palestinian peace and the Middle East region.
Chairman of the DPP KNPI, Muhammad Rifai Darus urged the Indonesian government to ask for clarification of US consulates in Indonesia related to its foreign policy that threatens political stability in the Middle East and the future of Israeli-Palestinian peace.
“The Indonesian government must also engage in a policy of free and active foreign policy by supporting the UNSC to act and respond to US policies that clearly trigger the Middle East conflict,” Rifai said in a press statement received by thejakartatimes.com editor in Jakarta on Saturday 9 December 2017.
He added that the government can also mobilize support in Asia, as well as countries in the Middle East region to urge the United States government to correct its foreign policy that recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
“If necessary the Indonesian government can put political pressure on the United States to correct its political policies that recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, for example, severing diplomatic ties with America or temporarily shutting down PT Freeport production in Indonesia,” Rifai said.
“This statement of stance is conveyed: May the struggle for peace in the Middle East region be immediately accomplished and the President of Trump can correct his foreign policy that threatens the political stability of the Middle East and the city of Jerusalem can be restored as a holy city of three religions, and Islam “, said Rifai.
