Thejakartatimes – Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT) appointed PT Multi Tally Indonesia (MTI) as a supplier of Rubber Tired Gantry Cranes (RTGC) at the largest container terminal in Indonesia from 1 January 2018. MTI replaces PT EMPCO Trans Logistik which will terminate the contract on December 31, 2017.

Chairman of the Workers Union Container (SPC), Sabar Royani said, termination of PT EMPCO contract with JICT finally impact on employee employee (PHK) decisions about 400 people. The 400-person employee consists of employees who have worked for years at JITC as contract employees.

“The termination of the contract with PT EMPCO has caused us to be laid off until now there are 400 more employees should be laid off when we have worked for years at JICT,” said Sabar at Kebon Bawang, North Jakarta, Tuesday (26/12).

Patience said JICT should not do layoffs but to appoint employees who have been dedicated to the company. To that end, it will continue to urge JICT to improve the current status of employees into permanent employees.

“We continue to struggle for permanent status, because here the work is not only in the grace period of four years but there are also those who have been decades, if we are dismissed we can let alone,” said Sabar.

Patience added, the company’s new vendor that is MTI is opening the opportunity for employees who are laid off to work again. But in fact MTI does not accept employees if the employee is registered in the union container (SPC).

“They say they can list on MTI, but we list eventually they refuse, because we join SPC, there are already tested all sorts, but fitting to join union directly rejected,” he explained.

Patience threatens to take peaceful action and the closure of the port if the employee’s demands are not met by JICT. “We will take a peaceful action on December 28, 2017. If there is no initiative to mediate or anything we will close the port at Tanjung Priok,” he explained. (Source: Merdeka)
