Thejakartatimes – Psychologist from Pancasila University Aully Grashinta said there are at least four factors that make children smoke or become smokers.
Children whose parents smoke, says Aully, will be easier to learn to smoke than children whose parents are not smokers.
“Basically, humans learn from the environment, children do modeling,” Aully said in Jakarta, as quoted Between today.
Secondly, people smoke in the environment
Just like the first factor, people who smoke in the child’s environment will be an example so the child will try smoking and eventually become a smoker.
Third, the pressure of friends or association
Children, Aully says, will be increasingly susceptible to smoking when hanging out with children smokers and think smoking is cool.
Fourth, cigarette advertisement
Although cigarette advertisements in the mass media do not display the form and activity of smoking, which appear in advertisements are things that are considered cool by children. “Children will obviously be affected and encouraged to smoke,” he said.
Children who see ads, which feature positive images and are considered cool by children, will be affected and then want the advertised goods. “Adults may think and weigh the benefits of an advertised item, but different things happen to children,” he said.
Then, what tips for parents so that children do not grow into smokers? Aully suggests parents should create a smoke-free environment. (CNN Indonesia)
